6 Fast-Acting Beauty Treatments for Skin, Hair, and Body that Work in Five Minutes or Less
Updated: Mar 21, 2019
The definition of low-maintenance beauty.
None of us has the time we wish we did when it comes to our beauty and self-care practices. Keeping our busy schedules in mind, I've kept track of a few low-maintenance beauty products that rock noticeable results quickly. Here are six beauty treatments and masks for the face, body, skin, and hair that take five minutes or less to use but yield long-lasting, high-quality results.
For Smooth, Healthy Hair
This in-shower hair masque treats strands to a rejuvenating transformation. Now available in this travel-friendly tube, it's clutch for hair types like mine that are prone to dryness and coarse textures. Used along with a hydrating shampoo and conditioner, like my favorite duo by Kevin Murphy, and followed by a leave-in conditioner post, such as R+Co. High Dive Moisture Shine Creme ($29), I am able to prevent the tangled, straw-like, matted mess that my hair becomes without regular TLC.
Plus, it helps repair and prevent future damage thanks to a lineup of thoughtfully-selected ingredients. Tamarind extract, for instance, serves as a natural hydrator, also providing the dual function of improving moisture-retention. Smart keratin bonds with the hair cuticle to smooth and prevent frizz, while an amino acid blend strengthens the integrity of your locks. Finally, artichoke leaf extract helps seals nutrients in while protecting tresses from future UV-damage.
Each time I use this treatment, I notice softer, smoother, more hydrated hair quality that looks and feels so much healthier. It becomes easier to brush, dissolves tangles, and makes styling a breeze.
Jen Atkin's celebrity-beloved line is both cruelty-free and paraben-free. It's not fragrance-free, but smells delicious thanks to a scent called "Melrose Place," made up of rose, bergamot, lychee, cedar wood, and white musk.
For Silky and Soft Strands
This is a favorite of mine. In just two to three minutes, the in-shower mask by the cruelty-free Aussie haircare line, Kevin Murphy, will rejuvenate and silkify the most damaged hair. Kevin Murphy might actually be my all-time favorite haircare line, consistently creating hair and scalp-care products that both gentle and nourishing. They truly live up to their motto, functioning like skincare products for the scalp and hair.
This rockstar of a masque can be used in lieu of shampoo and conditioner, providing a nourishing cleansing treatment in just 2-3 minutes. It doesn't lather or foam, free of oil-stripping sulphates, imparting the same type of hydrating cleanse as European-beloved cleansing milks and oils.
Its magic-inducing ingredients include papain, an enzyme that comes from papaya, and bromelain, another nutrient-rich enzyme that comes from pineapple. It also smells incredible.
The collection is mostly vegan and cruelty-free. I highly recommend all things Kevin Murphy! Purchase from an authorized salon via: http://kevinmurphy.com.au/salon-locator/
For Brighter Skin
Demi Lovato's go-to celebrity esthetician, Renée Rouleau, makes some of my all-time favorite skincare products. Her line is responsible for more than one of my holy grail products, from the cystic breakout savior — Anti Bump Solution ($47.50) — to the answer to hormonal breakouts — her Rapid Response Detox Mask ($63.50).
This berry-powered face mask goes on like a jelly, seeds and all, but is packed with alphahydroxy acids that exfoliate the top layers of the skin. It can be used to clear and prevent breakouts, to remove dead skin, fade acne scars, improve skin texture, and more.
It tingles slightly upon application but is fabulous for priming the skin for subsequent treatments. The quickie-peel clears the way for subsequent serums or masks you apply, making your complexion extra-receptive to what comes next. One of my favorite masks to apply post-peel? Her salicylic acid-powered Rapid Response Detox Mask (mentioned above). Tom actually got me the duo, which are available for purchase together in her Rapid Peel Duo ($152), for Christmas! Note: Salicylic acid is not recommended for use on pregnant or nursing mamas!
The visible glow-powers of this mask actually remind me of the magical Sunday Riley C.E.O. Serum ($85). (To see for yourself, apply two pumps of C.E.O. before going to bed and wake up to luminous skin.)
For Brighter Skin — More Affordably
I wanted to include a second option for brightening the complexion because as much as I adore Renée, as a person, esthetician, and product formulator, her luxury skincare line can be a touch pricy. This bad boy, on the other hand, exfoliates the complexion in just 3-minutes for half the price.
Using gentle-but-mighty enzymes in an organic formulation, the non-toxic clean beauty line's mask is suitable for normal, dry, combination, and sensitive skin-types. You can use this mask once per week to keep pores clear, even tone and texture, smooth, hydrate, brighten, and soothe in minimal time. Hint: It also uses natural ingredients to promote cell turnover, accelerating healing times, fading scars, and slowing the formation of wrinkles.
Both vegan and cruelty-free, the lineup includes a retinol-alternative to note in the form of alfalfa extract. As this fortifies the skin's production of collagen and elastin, pomegranate extract repairs free radical and environmental damage via antioxidants, and hibiscus flower extract sloughs away surface layers of the skin using alphahydroxy acids (AHAs).

For Tired, Puffy Eyes
As you age, the skin becomes thinner as collagen and elastin production naturally slow. This leaves maturing skin susceptible to crinkles and wrinkles that can become problematic if they deepen, as well as darkened hollows beneath the lids when the unoxygenated blue blood beneath glows through.
Since I can't stop the skin around my eyes from creasing on-the-reg (I'm a smiler!), I espouse a maximalist approach when it comes to anti-aging eye care. I regularly reach for serums, eye creams, and eye patches with an ASAP (As Much As Possible) mentality. On-the-reg, I use oil-rich eye serums — the Tibetan-sourced Akar Skin Eye Serum ($85) is my favorite — followed by a top-shelf eye cream, Orveda Eye Unveiler ($234).
But let's just say that I will never say no to showing under-eye area extra TLC. One fab way to do so is by using itty-bitty eye masks and skincare patches. The beauty of Patchology's hydrogel eye patches is that they work so quickly, de-puffing and serving as a wake-up call for my chronically tired eyes. Pop these guys onto sleepy eyes to minimize dark circles and soothe, while delivering a dose of active ingredients.
Patchology is phthalate-free, sulphate-free, and cruelty-free. Some of my favorite eye patches take up to twenty minutes to work their magic. Because of their quick turnaround time, I have gone through an entire package of these Pathology eye gels before.
For Dry, Rough Feet
Dry, rough, calloused feet are the bane of my existence. If you suffer from seriously dry feet or occasional cracks, you understand the difficulty of finding ample footie-hydration. With sandal-weather approaching, I desperately needed a product like this one to make my feet appropriate for the public.
The reason this special formulation exists — drawing its hydration from fifteen different natural sources of ceramides, humectants, emollients, and occlusives to penetrate deeply and effectively. It contains stand-outs including gotu kola, glycolic acid, ceramides, shea butter, and glycolic acid (to help get dead skin cells out of the way) and goes on without a greasy finish.
Applying the hypoallergenic, vegan, and cruelty-free foot butter once per day takes less than five minutes. With regular use, your tootsies will be flip flop-ready in time for Spring Break.
