16 French Girl Fashion Picks That Channel the Paris Dream IRL

For the francophile at heart.

I was recently gifted the most beautiful leather bag by the eco-luxury brand Matine. It is made of mindfully sourced black leather from local tanneries, with a reduced shipping footprint for their commute between D.C. and Pennsylvania. (To be more sustainable they would have to go the vegan leather route.) The Alma comes in black, white, and a warm brown shade, with a structured, minimalist design. I also got a matching strap which detaches via sleek metallic grommets. It has a pocket within and is structured exactly to my liking.

The moment I received it, I knew it would be the go-to bag I carried in the next phase of my life, which happens to be as a fashion student at Parsons Paris — a Francophile’s dream.

It will fit my laptop, a notebook, and the essentials — but won't allow me to become a complete bag lady the way I was in New York.

Matine Studio's Alma, which becomes much more functional with the detachable strap, $125, inspired the curation of dreamy picks below.

Here are 16 French-girl fashion picks that channel my Paris dreams IRL. (P.S. The last item is my favorite!)

I struggle with wordiness, so I try to keep Hemingway in mind when copywriting. The journalist-turned-literary hero wrote A Moveable a feast, alluded to by the exquisite clutch above, which documents his time as an ex-pat in Paris, France. I keep a portrait of him above my desk (it was given to me by Tom’s dad) And dream of staying in The Hemingway Suite at The Ritz Paris (even more than the Coco Chanel Suite) one day. As I prepare to embark on my own ex-pat phase as a writer, this type of fashion statement is meaningful to me. #synchronicity
