Some Memorial Day Sales for MDW 2020
Updated: Jul 23
With so many sales to navigate, these will be your best purchases.
Just in time for Memorial Day Weekend, I've repatriated to the United States. (You can read about that wild journey in my piece on The Zoe Report.) But while we're hanging out at home, hopefully enjoying what our back yards or terraces have to offer, MDW's traditional sales have begun. Here are some of the best deals in beauty, fashion, and beyond, with a decidedly Californian twist.
Two sommeliers founded this curated wine delivery service based out of Southern California. Each month, you will receive six of summer's ultimate beverage — rosé — from their favorite summer destinations. Among them? California (duh), France (Sancerre — a region that produces some of my all-time favorite reds and whites — and Provence, where I once studied abroad) and Italy (Corsica and Southern Italy). This MDW, you will also receive 15% off of one-time payments in prep for National Wine Day on May 25.
P.S. After drinking, taking an immune-boosting supplement like Glutathione can help your body detox!
Normally you'd have to pay $78.90 for this three-piece, self-tanning bundle but you can score it for thirty bucks less. The Bali Bronzing Foam — which has won thirteen beauty awards — uses Cellushape technology to hydrate and hide cellulite, while imparting a faux glow in the shade of your choice.
The bundle includes a mit and vegan kabuki brush for seamless application, while the natural DHA tint features a green-gray base that prevents any orange-hues whatsoever. Coco & Eve is vegan, PETA-approved, paraben-free, sulfate-free, gluten-free, silicone-free, and ethically sourced.
Plus, any purchase over $60 comes with a free gift with purchase (containing their Hair Masque, Anti-Snag Hair Ties, and a cute bubble pouch) when you sign up for the brand's mailing list.
The sustainable LA line creates minimalist-friendly basics from ECONYL, regenerated Nylon that makes for easy care and high functionality. I have literally worn a Zanni dress on a hike before, yet it's chic enough to style and comfortable enough to lounge in. Travel in it, relax in it, run errands in it, hang out in it — in this dress, the world is your minimalist-chic playground. The warm weather-approved dress above is already on sale, and using code MEMORIAL20, you can get 20% off the entire site.
If you're planning on wearing a swimsuit this MDW, some DIY hair removal might be in order. I've heard that learning to self-sugar the Brazilian region can be tough, but a bikini wax should be simple enough to pull off. Wakse makes microwavable hard wax beans that come in fun fragrances like banana split, fudge, and bubble gum. Simply apply the wax — once it's cooled a bit — in the direction of hair growth. Once it dries into a hard wax, you remove it.
Bodysuits are essential, whether worn poolside or paired with cut-off denim shorts. The cinched, high-leg design of this suit allows for a trendy high leg cut, with a low back and scooped neckline. The sustainable brand's swimsuits are also biodegradable! Normally you would have to pay $175, but from May 21 - May 25, it's on sale for $140.
I lived around the corner from a Guerlain store in Paris and walked by it every single day of lockdown. Because of that, the ultra-luxe brand will always hold a special place in my heart, even though it's not for ultra-clean beauty fans.
This limited edition kit of honey-inspired, paraben-free skincare goodies would normally retail for $271, but they're newly available for just $215. Featuring royal jelly — the luxurious substance reserved for the Queen Bee — and Ouessant Honey, from an island and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, you can enjoy one of France's most luxurious brands with this four-step ritual.
If you are an ultra-clean beauty fan, you can use the code SUMMER to get 15% off and free shipping on this DIY superfood mask kit. Food-grade skincare is a game-changer for green beauty enthusiasts.
Meet the perfect black monokini — and the only one you'll ever need if you're a minimalist. One shoulder silhouettes are a personal favorite, and this brand happens to be both sustainable and cute, to boot. Made in Bali, Indonesia but based out of Encinitas, California, each suit is made fro ECONYL yarn and regenerated, ribbed nylon. Swoon. This exact swimsuit is on my wish list.
Use code MEMORIALDAY to get 35% off the site, running from Friday the 22nd to Tuesday May 26th. You will also get a free, sustainable bag and a 4oceans bracelet with your order.
Traveling back from France, my beauty collection suffered one casualty — a broken glass jar whose contents slimed the rest of the bottles in the box. That's what makes Kusshi's adorable bottle protectors absolutely brilliant. You can travel without worrying that even a single drop of your precious beauty potions will be wasted on a surface other than your face.
Use code MEMORIALDAY to get 30% off Orly's entire site. Their breathable color is 16-free, vegan, leaping bunny certified, and infused with argan oil and vitamins B5 + C. All you need is one coat; no base oat or top coat necessary. Plus, nude manicures last the longest.
The code MEMORIAL15! will get you 15% off site-wide. Plus, you'll score a super cute stash pouch that reads "Chill TF Out" with your purchase. When it comes to stress-relief, we are decidedly not minimalists; the more, the better.
If you are a fan of crystals, or crystal-infused beauty products (guilty!), you will die for the perfection of this ultra-luxe, clean skincare line. They combine Eastern medicine with European and Japanese bio-technology to balance and detoxify the skin from the cellular level. The line is infused with subtle energy of crystals to aid with anti-aging, rejuvenation, and nourishment, and the entire cruelty-free line is also free of parabens, phthalates, sulfates, detergents, mineral oil, petrolatum, palm oil, synthetic dyes, and gluten. The mask above is infused with anti-microbial ingredients including colloidal silver, as well as oxygenating herbs, and restorative blue sapphire, silk proteins, royal jelly, blue chamomile, and more.
The line is pricy but their Memorial Day sale breakdown is as follows:
Use code PRIVATE25 for $25 off a $150+ purchase
Use code PRIVATE50 for $50 off a $275+ purchase
Use code PRIVATE100 for $100 off a $500+ purchase
Use code PRIVATE200 for $200 off a $800+ purchase
With any purchase of $125, you'll receive a free, travel-sized Essential Body Trio, containing the Ocean Lotion, Undaria Algae Body Oil, and their Anti-Aging Body Balm. There are plenty of cult-faves to choose from the plant-based, clean line — like their minty-refreshing Ocean Cleansing Mudd, Salts of the Earth body scrub, or their stress-reducing Vagus Nerve Oil. To learn more about the brand, you can read this piece on Nécessité.
The luxury botanical aromatics and cannabis brand, Highborn NYC, is offering 25% off site-wide from May 22 - May 25, plus all orders over $50 will receive a free tote. The body oils, mists, and anointing oils from the line are expertly crafted to balance, calm, and soothe the mind and body.
Completely clean, Défumé purifies your mind with Palo Santo, while Sandalwood promotes calm. Plus, the vegan line is consciously created in fresh, micro-batches using wild-crafted ingredients. It's basically like smokeless sage in a bottle.
Alder New York, a vegan, genderless beauty brand, is offering 20% off site-wide with the code MEMORIAL2020. While their formulas are clean and fantastic, their back obsidian beauty tools are impossibly-chic must-haves. Incorporating lymphatic drainage massage into your regimen via gua sha can help de-puff, contour, and more importantly, detox. By promoting the movement of our lymph fluid, it aids the body in the natural removal of toxins. Among other things, this can prevent breakouts!
This sustainable, throw blanket is more than just a cozy addition to your home. Made of 75% recycled cotton and 25% mostly-recycled polyester, the machine-washable, eco-luxe throws come in several different prints. There is an entire collection for equestrians, and the reversible bits are an obvious choice. Use code MDSALE15 on orders over $100 to receive 15% off and a free mask.
Your clear skin essentials — microdart acne patches, a skin-clearing supplement, and an upcoming acne scar-fading patch — can be scored for 20% off for Memorial Day Weekend using the code AMAYZING. Each dose of their skin-clearing supplement contains 30 mg of Zinc, so you can take it with the immune-boosting supplement Quercetin to boost its rate of absorption.
Warning: Skin Discipline, the supplement, unfortunately contains gelatin in their capsule, so don't take it if you're vegan; in that case, consider Skin Filter by The Nue Co. instead.
Lately, I have been hearing so much buzz about the exfoliating mask from the line. It contains galactoarabinan, a larch tree extract, for deep exfoliation that works more quickly than lactic of glycolic acids. Other active ingredients include detoxifying and sebum-absorptive kaolin clay, hyperpigmentation-fighting kojic acid, fruit enzymes (which also impart vitamin C) and volcanic ash to draw out impurities. I personally go to this spa for treatments; the celebrity esthetician is considered one of the best in the business for very good reason, and her formulations are always gentle and protective of the skin.
Celebrity esthetician Joanna Vargas' MDW offerings are as follows:
15% off $100 or more with code SAVE15
20% off $200 or more with code SAVE20
25% off $300 or more with code SAVE25
The makers of my holy grail hair oil — which incorporates an extract from the spiritually-significant plant, ayahuasca — is offering 15% off with no code needed through midnight on Monday, May 25.
For MDW, you will receive 25% off your Infinite CBD order! While it's tempting to stock up on their highly bio-available, water-soluble, nanotized CBD — I add their Nano Enhancer to my skincare products, but it can also be ingested orally — their CBD-infused antiseptic soap is also worth a try. The more you hand wash, the more likely you are to develop irritation, dryness, and redness on the hands. This blend, however, aids with healing abrasions and soothing sore skin, and can even be used on wounds. For further inspo, they also make the cooling, CBD-infused Nano Freezing Point Cream (which helped soothe my sore back during a bout with COVID) and Nano Hand Sanitizer, along with several beauty brands now making hand sanitizer. There are even goodies for your pets.
