Indie Haircare Brand R+Co Launches New Collab with Fred Segal

Updated: Apr 5, 2019

What your wildest haircare dreams are made of.

Celebrity hair stylist Ashley Streicher personally curated seven of cult-indie brand R+Co.'s haircare products. These elite few will now be sold in collaboration with the fashion brand, Fred Segal — and boasts new packaging to match. As of April 3, you can buy these whimsical little gems online as well as at various Fred Segal locations, including at LAX.

Streicher's "top 7" were chosen with the laid-back vibes of Southern California culture in mind. Just don't mistake SoCal chill for a laid-back attitude regarding grooming. We Californians take self-care seriously, applying the principle to both our hygiene and our personal aesthetics. Spending nearly two decades here, I would define our culture as priding itself in the alignment of inner- and outer-beauty. Doing so requires functional hair, cosmetic, and skincare products — unless you're ugly on the inside, that is.

If you're not from here, all I can say is that even the most messy-pretty hair #NEEDS high quality product. I love rocking perfectly-imperfect 'dos, but without the right formulas (think: ultra-hydrating shampoo and conditioner, fast-acting in-shower masques, and leave-in products galore), the end result is not cute and it's not pretty.

Thanks to my arsenal of products, however, I can let down my gloriously huge, wavy, prone-to-matting tresses stress-free.

Having low-maintenance hair is crucial for me, as I need to reserve all my efforts for making my hormonal skin CHILL already. Speaking personally, investing in high quality haircare is a way of delaying the need for frequent trims and salon appointments, while simultaneously ensuring the long-term health of my strands.

The brand itself is simply excellent — one of my favorites. R+Co's effective formulas meet the needs of every hair woe and concern. They do so with contemporary branding that is refreshingly fun and creative, while being free of those controversial toxins I loathe.

The entire line is vegan, cruelty-free, and gluten-free. All of their products are created without parabens, sulfates, mineral oils, or petrolatum, making them refreshingly non-toxic.

R+Co imparts luxury-quality results without sacrificing a spirit of revelry. There's something to be said for a beauty brand that prides itself on genuine self-expression — and of your best self, to boot. There's a reason that hairstylists worldwide reach for these babies, which are, in fact, driven and developed by industry-leading hair stylists themselves. As a consumer with a wild head of hair, I can't emphasize their efficacy enough — or the importance of investing in quality haircare, for that matter.

And then there's the branding. Fun, colorful, artistic, and like a festival-in-a-bottle. This is evidence of the brand's perfect read of the consumer and the marketing demands of this digital age. The launch's fabulous timing comes upon the very brink of festival season. (Are they available in travel sizes yet?!)

Here is a look at the R+Co x Fred Segal creative new collaboration — it's all about self-expression via the hair. Basically, it's what our hair-loving dreams are made of.
